Dizzle
Today at Redwall was a warmer one. It had been raining most of the day, melting some snow that still covered the ground, making it a bit more humid than usual. A fine mist covered most of the land in the late afternoon and there was still a drizzle occurring every so often, but if you didn't care about getting a bit wet, then it was pleasant experience to be outside. This was exactly how Dizzle felt. Where most beasts were entertaining themselves in the Abbey, she snuck out and was sitting up on the ramparts, as she usually could be found. The black squirrel was mostly hidden beneath a warm wool cloack, the tip of her nose just barely peeking out. She was facing the Woods, looking out across the treetops at the distant sun that was lowering itself into the sea for its nightly snooze. The rain that had been falling when she came out slowly lessened and finally disappeared, allowing her to remove her hood and light up her long-stemmed pipe.
As she puffed clouds of smoke, she contemplated things. She hardly remembered her past, but she did remember a few things; brief glances of her parents and other members that lived in her clan. Yes, she remembered that she was a part of a clan of black squirrels like herself, but she did not remember faces or specific locations. Dizzle's only true memories involved the Abbey and the many beasts that took care in raising her while she grew up. But these days, she wanted answers about her past. She wanted to know all of the things that eluded her memories. But most of all, she wanted to know why she'd been left behind. And why no one had come to claim her. The squirrel inhaled deeply, but her breath hitched and she began coughing up smoke, trying to fix the air that had caught in her throat. Her black brush stood on end with every cough and her eyes watered until finally she breathed normally and got rid of the cough. Dizzle wiped the tears and then replaced the pipe in her mouth. Glad nobeast had seen her in such a fit (that she knew of).

"You alright Dizzle?" Cordale said, coming up to her. Yes, he was concerned about her coughing, but he knew there was something deeper going on behind those eyes. She was looking out into the woods, but her eyes looked distant, as if she had something else on her mind. It was a miserable sort of day outside, but Cordale had come out to escape all the noise of Dibbuns eagerly wishing they could go outside. Then he'd spotted Dizzle on the ramparts. He had only seen her because she'd coughed, giving away her location. He hated that pipe, but wouldn't admonish her about it. He was concerned that it made her cough, but had no proof that it was doing any real harm, so he let the matter drop.
In any case, he was more concerned about her. He knew that her past was relatively unknown, she was the same age though she'd never been involved in his many antics when he was younger. She was quiet and kept mostly to herself, but Cordale assumed that, like any beast, she wanted a friend or two. Since he'd become less of a wild youngster and more of a resposible member of the abbey he'd begun to notice her more and more, and wished there was something he could do to help her. However, none of the medicines or remedies the infirmary keeper had tried had worked, so for know she was left with little to go off of to find her family. Cordale knew he should be grateful he was born and raised at Redwall.

Dizzle
Dizzle jumped slightly at the sound of Brother Cordale's voice, almost sucking back more smoke. She turned about to look at the friendly brother, but did not show happiness or anything but recognition. "Yes, I'm fine." She said simply at first, but then added a bit to not seem so dismissive of him. "I just sucked in a bit of smoke." This time she was a bit softer. She shifted a bit so she was more leaning on the ramparts rather than sitting on the edge and faced him better. They had pretty much grown up together so there was no reason for her to be short, sharp, or distant with him. Of course, he had been born here while she had been abandoned and brought into the Abbey when she was a babe. They were still raised and taught together, among the rest of the herd of dibbuns at that time. In fact, if Dizzle claimed a friend, it might have been Cordale. But the black squirrel did not like to associate certain beasts as "friends" or "acquaintances" so she just lumped everyone together into the "acquaintance" group. It made everything easier for everyone. "So what brings you onto the ramparts in this lovely weather?"

Cordale smiled and took a seat next to her. "Oh the din in cavern hole chased me out. Those dibbuns can be quite loud when they are bored and not getting their way." He said. "Still, we bring them out here and the infirmary could be flooded by the rain, and the dibbuns tracking it in." He smiled at the thought, though sick dibbuns was no laughing matter the idea of the rainwater flooding the infirmary was a little humorous. He knew it was the dratted weather that was making him find humor in everything. He just wanted a chance to laugh rather then mope about like most beats. The water from the rampart was beginning to soak through his habit and he shifted a little, but didn't really mind. It would dry quick once he went inside, and he could always trouble the good friar for the chance to stand next to the big ovens to get warm. The friar would probably put him to work on it too, but the task would bring warmth back to his paws once he decided to return indoors. For now he simply enjoyed the sight of the abbey as the building and grounds glistened with the newly fallen water.

Dizzle
The black squirrel nodded sagely, puffing on the pipe and looking away, looking out across the dark forest. She had a feeling that her parents were out there somewhere. And if not her parents, then someone related to her had to be out there that could explain her previous life to her. Maybe then she could have some closure about her life and her upbringing. She chewed on the stem of the pipe, lost in her thoughts and all of the questions she had. Dizzle then brought herself from her musing and answered Cordale. "It's not just the dibbuns that are loud. Those elders can get pretty bad when they go off on a tangent also."
{ooc} i love and hate dizzle sometimes.

Cordale nodded. He could remember one of them breaking out into the story of Matthias the Warrior for the eighth time today. It wasn't like anybeast paid him any mind, he was quite senile and forgot things almost as quickly as they happened. He remembered a few names of abbey dwellers he really knew well from his younger days, but new members or creatures he was mostly unfamiliar with were becoming lost in a sea of odd thoughts and interesting memories. Cordale couldn't stand to hear the story (said with several mistakes including Constellation the badger and Garlic the hare) once more. "Yes I think the wall tops are a great spot to get a little piece and quiet." He replied, smiling at the the contentment he felt.
