It had been a dark time for the Avengers and the Marvel Universe. Beginning with the mental breakdown of Scarlet Witch, continuing with a Civil War which threatened to tear them apart for good, leading into a Skull invasion which had been planned for decades, and finally, into a reign of darkness which culminated into a siege on the newly restored Asgard, home of the mighty Thor and his fellow gods.
But the forces of heroism prevailed. During the Dark Reign of Norman Osborn, the Sentinel of Liberty, Steve Rogers - the original Captain America himself - had been revived and brought to the present, leading Iron Man, Thor, the current Captain America and his former sidekick, Bucky, and more against Osborn's forces of evil. The price was heavy, the cost high, but Norman Osborn and his "Dark Avengers" were defeated, and the madness of Robert Reynolds - the Sentry - was brought to an end with blood and thunder.
Now as Head of Security to the nation and the successor of Nick Fury, Tony Stark, and Norman Osborn alike, Steve Rogers and his Avengers are leading the world from out of the shadows and into a new "Heroic Age". The forces of evil lie in wait, ready to strike, but so do the forces of good lie ready...ready to answer the call:
"AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!"
