What is your favorite song, ditty, or poem from the Redwall Series?
Mine has to be the one sung by Tingle in 25th Chapter of Taggerung.
Yea that ones a tearjerker, and my second is no better: Noonvale, sung by Rose in the 17th chapter of Martin the Warrior:
I know, I know, humor time! My third is from Loamhege, Chapter Six. Sung by the incorrigible Horty:
Gotta love Horty and Setiva in that scene. Actually, gotta love Horty just about any time, he's great for a laugh
Anyway, if you care to share, you don't have to type out the whole thing like I did, just please give us the title and chapter of where to find it so we can look it up.
Mine has to be the one sung by Tingle in 25th Chapter of Taggerung.
"Old places I traveled, long seasons ago.
Kind faces of friends I have seen,
What's 'round the riverbend, dear I don't know,
'Tis a land that my heart's never been.
Will I sit in the shade of tall willows above,
If I gaze in the stream may I see,
There standing beside, the one that I love,
Or all sad and alone must I be?
The tears I have shed here are mingled and gone,
Through waters which flow without end,
And I must drift, ever seeking that one,
Waiting there 'round some far riverbend."
Yea that ones a tearjerker, and my second is no better: Noonvale, sung by Rose in the 17th chapter of Martin the Warrior:
"You will find me at Noonvale on the side of a hill
When the summer is peaceful and high,
There where the streamlets meander the valley is still,
'Neath the blue of a calm cloudless sky.
Look for me at dawning when the earth is asleep.
Till each dewdrop is kissed by the day,
'Neath the rowan and alder a vigil I'll keep,
Every moment that you are away.
The old earth gently turns as the seasons change slowly.
All the flowers and leaves born to wane.
Hear my song o'er the lea, like the wind soft and lowly.
Oh, please come back to Noonvale again."
I know, I know, humor time! My third is from Loamhege, Chapter Six. Sung by the incorrigible Horty:
"What a gloomy little mug, wot wot,
come on, let's see you smile.
With a scowl like that you'd frighten
every beast within a mile.
So chortle hahaheeheehoho!
and brighten up for me,
or I'll send you to that Sister
from the infirmary
She'll say 'Wot have we here, wot wot?
A face like a flattened frog?
This calls for a bucket o' physick, aye,
now that should do the job!
Will somebeast grab her nose,
so she can't hold her breath,
then I'll be able to grab a ladle,
an' physick the child to death!
I'll not have it said of me, I couldn't do my job,
an' send a young 'un to her grave,
with a grin upon her gob!'
So chortle hohohahahee,
an' smile an' giggle a lot,
you can't sit there all evenin'
with a face like a rusty pot. Wot wot!"
Martha was chuckling when she spired Sister Setiva, the Infirmary Keeper, making a beeline for her brother.
Setiva had a stern manner, and a marked northern accent, coupled with a dislike for impudence. "Ach ye flop-eared wretch, ah'll physick ye tae death if'n ah lay paws on ye!"
Gotta love Horty and Setiva in that scene. Actually, gotta love Horty just about any time, he's great for a laugh
