Jenvyre looked out of the window and sighed. The words weren't making sense. Oh sure, she could read, but the book in front of her was just not making any sense. It was a long account of some important piece of Redwall history, but as far as she was concerned, the recorder at that time had a penchant for making it as boring as possible. Plus though she could read, her vocabulary was limited. She was reading because she hadn't been paying attention in abbey school. Oh how she loathed it. She couldn't care less if she could read, or write, and cared even less about numbers. She was usually daydreaming out of boredom. And now she was doing it again. Looking off to her left at the window she saw the rain making rivulets as it flowed down the glass. She looked beyond that, out at the abbey grounds, which were getting drenched. The path had patches of puddles, and though the pond wasn't quite in sight she could imagine it was dotted with ripples as the rain made it dance. Her thoughts strayed to her father, and the dirk she had concealed. The abbey beasts hadn't wanted her to keep it, but she did anyway. She had told them she'd buried it, but that wasn't true. It was hidden and safe. She rose and opened the window a little, but a gust of wind blew rainwater in, dampening the book and rustling the pages. She held back a shout, hoping not to draw attention to herself, and closed the window before hurrying over to survey the damage. It wasn't too bad, except one page that had gotten wet and then ripped a little in the center. It now read re l. She sighed, but since she was passed that page already, she just turned ahead, hoping no one noticed.

Larulla was bored. And with this young mole, it was a dangerous thing for her to be bored. The last time she had been bored, the cooks had banned her from the kitchens for a season (she wasn't sure if they meant it or not, but she thought it best not to go back for awhile). The mole wrinkled her nose as she peered outside the doors that protected the entryway of the Abbey from the elements, which she was now letting inside in small puddles.
Larulla closed the door again carefully and then took off running, with far less care, toward the Library. Maybe there would be something to there. And if worse came to worse, maybe one of her young Dibboun friends would be there so she could play with someone. When she burst open the door, she announced in a loud, bass voice, "Hurr hurr, 'tis oi, Larulla! It be rainin' afrightfurrlee out thurr, boi hokee!" A few Abbey beasts looked up and shushed her with a wave of a paw and a severe look. Larulla merely grumbled as she trundled further inside, hoping to find something to do.
As she walked inside, she noticed a young dormouse seated at a table by herself, sighing as she gazed at a particularly large book, larger than any Larulla had ever seen. She immediately trundled over faster and scrambled up onto the chair across from the dormouse and leaned across the table. She commented (in a voice that was still too loud), "Burr hurr! That'un be a moightee big booker, marm! It lookens loik it be burreninger th'n this hurr rainstormer!" She nodded sagely at her 'wise' comment.
((Whoo, first shot at molespeak! Feel free to shoot me a PM if I need to fix something! ;D))

((I see nothing wrong))
Jenvyre jumped at the sound of a loud voice, and turned to see Larulla coming in. She chuckled at the moles weather observation and meant to warn her to keep her voice down, but was then distracted by the little lass pulling herself up onto the opposite chair and leaning across the table. She chuckled at the Dibbun's accurate assumption about the book. "Yes, it's the most boring dusty old tome ever. If you are ever told to read it I recommend tunneling out of here and not coming back for a bit." She then realized the foolishness of such a suggestion. "Sorry, that's wrong. You should stay and read it like a good abbey beast." She said, mocking one of her teachers, completely with folded hands and a straight back. She didn't care much for abiding by their counsel, but she didn't want Larulla to get hurt. "And you should keep your voice down. You don't want one of the brothers or sisters chiding you and I would rather not get caught not reading..." Jenvyre realized that was confusing. "I want them to think I am behaving myself." She amended. She wasn't very good with words, but she had a good bit of wit when she needed it. She was clever in some respects, just not reading, writing, or math. She looked back towards the window, sighing wistfully. "I guess I should be glad it's raining, I would hate to be stuck here on a nice day." She thought she probably should be grateful.

Larulla nodded to the dormouse's first assumption of the book. She carefully lifted a page and saw nothing but lines of text and a thin layer of dust, stirred up by the reader's shifting. She wrinkled her nose and replaced the page again as the dormouse imitated an older abbeybeast. She giggled in her bass tone but she couldn't resist commenting, "Hurr hurr, but this bain't be a fun booker... Thurr's no pitchers 'r anythin'! Wha's it about, hurr?" She asked, vaguely interested.
However, the dormouse - Jenvyre, the mole thought her name was - was eager to get a little off-topic from her supposed studies. Larulla rolled her eyes as the dormouse warned her to be quiet so neither she nor the mole would get in trouble. "Why do oi haff ter be quoiet all the toime? Oi've got sometin to say, so whoi shouln' oi say it?" Larulla complained, although she did relent and talk a little quieter - just enough to prevent a library attendant from coming over to shush her.
The little female followed Jenvyre's gaze out the window and nodded in agreement. "Burr, that wouldn' be gud. But oi be wishin' it wurr sunny-loike so oi could go a-running outsoide. Insoide 'snot as fun, burr no." She shook her head at the comment, but she could see why Jenvyre was at least somewhat happy that it was raining - if it wasn't, she'd be reading that boring old book inside when it was nice and sunny outside. Larulla could definitely understand how that would feel.
((Apologies for the lateness, Zing... Hope the post is ok!))

((Heres's an even later reply... sorry))
Jenvyre smiled. "Yep, I think they gave me the most boring flippin' book in the abbey!" She whispered. "It's by some mouse called Methuselah, but I am not really paying much attention to it. Some mouse and a couple others are looking for some sword I think." She yawned. She listened as Larulla replied to her warning and grinned at the molebabe's forwardness. "Oh I agree, speak your mind." She tried to think of something to do. "We should start a pillow fight or something like that." Jenvyre knew she was already in trouble, so she didn't really mind trying to stir something else up. She thought it would be fun, and besides, there wasn't much left to do on a rainy day like this.
(Pathetic post, sorry...)
